A major event at the Department of Orthopaedics, King Edward Medical University / Mayo Hospital Lahore, marked the inauguration of several transformative milestones, symbolizing a new era of progress and innovation.
This occasion was graced by distinguished dignitaries, Chief guests:

The inauguration of the High Dependency Unit (HDU) was a highlight of the event, with Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir, along with the generous donors Mr. Rana Amjad Ali and his family, officiating the ceremony. This facility represents a significant enhancement in the department’s capacity to provide critical care, ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of medical attention in times of need.
Another milestone was the inauguration of a state-of-the-art Smart Classroom, a project fully funded through indigenous resources. The classroom was inaugurated by Minister Mr. Khawaja Salman Rafique, alongside Dr. Munawar Ali from the USA. Equipped with the latest technology, this cutting-edge classroom is designed to foster an interactive and immersive learning environment, exemplifying the institution’s commitment to investing in education and empowering future medical professionals with the tools necessary for success in a rapidly evolving digital world.
The launch of the new website, www.mayoortho.com, added another feather to the department’s cap. Demonstrated by Dr. Mazhar Rafique, this digital platform is poised to enhance communication and outreach efforts. It will serve as an information hub, connecting the department with the broader community, and ensuring that vital resources and updates are readily accessible to all stakeholders. This initiative marks a significant step forward in making the department’s services more transparent and accessible.
The announcement of the commencement of the Paperless Patient Records and e-Files system was another landmark achievement. Elaborated by Dr. Rooh Ullah, a resident of the department, this indigenous project signifies a leap towards operational efficiency and sustainability. By digitizing patient records, the department aims to streamline operations, reduce its environmental footprint, and enhance the accuracy and accessibility of patient information, ultimately leading to improved patient care.
In addition, the inauguration of a new Anaesthesia machine for the Orthopaedic Operation Theatre was a significant moment, with Hafiz Mian Nauman officiating the ceremony. The machine worth Rs. 1.2 million, generously donated by Dr. Afsar Khan & family from USA, is a crucial addition to the department’s infrastructure.
Vice Chancellor KEMU Prof. Mahmood Ayyaz, in his insightful address, lauded the efforts of the Department of Orthopaedics. He emphasized that the establishment of the HDU stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and a shared vision for advancing healthcare. Vice Chancellor concluded by urging everyone to continue striving for excellence and to work collaboratively towards achieving even greater heights in the future.
Prof. Ahsan Nauman, CEO of Mayo Hospital, provided an update on the various projects implemented in recent months and assured attendees of his team’s unwavering commitment to bringing transparency and efficiency to the hospital’s operations. He also highlighted the ongoing digitalization of the hospital’s stores, underscoring the institution’s commitment to modernization.
Hafiz Mian Nauman expressed his deep satisfaction with the department’s achievements, especially given that they were accomplished through self-reliance. As the newly appointed coordinator for Mayo Hospital by the Chief Minister of Punjab, he pledged to do everything in his power to further the interests of the hospital and support its continued growth.
Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, the chief guest, expressed his immense pleasure and honor in being part of this momentous occasion. He extended heartfelt gratitude to the donors, whose unwavering generosity made the establishment of the HDU and Smart Classroom possible.
