About Our Department
Department of Orthopaedic Surgery was established at King Edward Medical College and Mayo Hospital in 1956. Professor Major Muhammad Ayub was the first Head of the Department. The Department was established in 1974 Orthopaedic Workshop & School of Physiotherapy was established in 1982. This department was strengthened by creating two (02) Units in August 1996 during the tenure of Prof. Naseer M. Akhtar.

The department is providing patient care, education and social work services. Patient care is being provided under specialties of Bone Tumors, Limb Length Discrepancies Correction, Non-Union Treatment, Spine Surgery, Arthroplasties, Pediatric Orthopaedics, Hand and Upper Limb Surgery, Pelvic Surgery, Arthroscopy, Foot and Ankle Surgery. The educational services are provided for post graduate and under graduate medical students. Post graduate courses are M.S Orthopaedics, FCPS Orthopaedics, Diploma in Orthopaedics and M. Phil Physiotherapy. Under graduate programs are M.B.B.S, Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT), and B.Sc. Orthotics & Prosthetics Technology. There are a number of research projects going on in the department. Well-equipped.
