He lauded the Department of Orthopaedics for their dedication in organizing this exceptionally well-structured and impactful course, which continues to benefit participants immensely

Mr. Hafiz Mian Muhammad Nauman, Coordinator to CM for Mayo hospital expressed his immense pleasure to see academic activity of such professional level. He assured that the Punjab Government is taking long term measures to improve the conditions of the hospital and enhance the capacity.

Prof. Muhammad Moin further acknowledged the exemplary efforts not only elevating the standards of academic excellence but also fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional enrichment, setting a remarkable precedent.

Prof. Ahsan Nauman expressed profound appreciation for the exemplary efforts of Prof. Faisal Masood and his dedicated team in orchestrating such a meticulously planned and highly impactful course. He emphasized that the initiative not only provided invaluable guidance to examination candidates but also set a benchmark for excellence in academic support and professional development.

Prof. Abrar Ashraf Ali delivered an expert talk on strategies for the post graduate examination. His interactive session with candidates included critical exam insights, need for practical knowledge and techniques to perform in a stressful environment.

The course, spanning two days, featured the most senior National Faculty of Orthopaedic Surgery. This course is popular among the postgraduate trainees as it provides an opportunity for each exam candidate to perform independently and interact with the examiners. With over 60 participants from across the country, the program included TOACS, Short & Long cases, along with special lectures on exam preparation and key topics with excellent feedback from the participants.

The faculty from ten different institutions comprised distinguished names such as Prof. Rana Dilawaiz Nadeem, Prof. Tariq Sohail, Prof. Abu Bakar Siddique, Prof. Tahseen Riaz, Prof. Ali Raza Hashmi, Prof. Irfan Mahboob, Prof. Abdul Latif Sami, Prof. Asif Ali Shah, Prof. Syed Wasif Ali Shah, Prof. Muhammad Akhtar Malik, Prof. Javed Hassan, Prof. Sohail Razzaq Awan, Prof. Prof. Muhammad Iqbal, Prof. Faisal Masood, Dr. Muhammad Akram, Dr. Umair Abu Bakar, Dr. Aamir Sohail, Dr. Mumraiz Salik, Dr. Muhammad Ali, Dr. Ahmad Humayun, Dr. Kashif Cheema and Dr. Suhail Niazi.

During the concluding ceremony, shields were distributed to distinguished faculty and bags to the participants. Prof. Faisal Masood extended a vote of thanks to the distinguished course faculty for the remarkable success of the activity. About Us

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery was established at King Edward Medical College and Mayo Hospital in 1956. Professor Major Muhammad Ayub was the first Head of the Department. The Department was established in 1974 Orthopaedic Workshop & School of Physiotherapy was established in 1982. This department was strengthened by creating two (02) Units in August 1996 during the tenure of Prof. Naseer M. Akhtar.

King Edward Medical College (University) - King Edward Medical College, constructed in 1860 has a very long tradition of excellence going back to over 140 years. This is the second oldest seat of medical learning in the subcontinent, the first being in Calcutta. King Edward Medical College is even older than the University of the Punjab, the latter being established in 1870 as the Punjab University College. The university status was granted in 1882.In August, 1860, Dr. J.B. Scriven of the General Hospital in Calcutta was invited to become the Principal of the proposed Lahore Medical School, which was to be the second such Institution in Indo Pakistan Sub-Continent. In keeping with the modest beginning, the newly created institution was designated as Lahore Medical School and started functioning in Artillery Barracks at the present site of the Government College, with a Hospital located in a foreign stable near the present Tibbi Police station in Taxali Gate, almost a mile away from the college. This arrangement according to Dr. Scriven was most inconvenient and insufficient for the needs of the community.A total of 49 students were admitted (44 in Hindustani Classes and 5 in English Classes) following Matriculation examination in 1860. The only posts sanctioned by the Government in the beginning were those of the Principal, who started teaching Anatomy, Physiology; and a Professor (Dr. T.E. Burton Brown) who commenced his lectures on Chemistry, Materia Medica and Botany. The school soon gained in popularity which was evidenced by the steady increase in the member of students which rose to 40 by the year 1870 in English Classes and 87 in the Hindustani Classes. 27 students passed the native Doctor's Examination in 1863 and one student by the name of John Andrews passed the Sub-assistant Surgeons examination in 1865.Until 1870, the Medical School had been granting its own diplomas to Sub-assistant Surgeons and native doctors. With the opening of the Punjab University College that year, it was arranged so that the new College would undertake the conduct of examination and granting of University diplomas. The first such examination was held in October, 1871 by Diploma in Medicine. During the next 13 years the Punjab University College awarded diplomas to 145 successful students. It is matter of interest to note that the Medical College has a longer history than the University of the Punjab, and the relationship between the two has always been cordial and cooperative. The College was then as now independent in all affairs in teaching and administration except for conducting examinations.In 1870, the construction of the attached teaching hospital was completed and was named after the then Viceroy of India, Lord Mayo (Mayo Hospital). The first building of the Medical School was built in the same style as the Mayo Hospital. It was completed in 1883. The next year, a nursing class was also started. Women students were allowed to register for regular courses in the same class as men for the first time. J.E. Hilton Executive Engineer, Lahore designed and constructed a new dissection room in 1887. In 1891, the Licentiate Diploma was re-designated as Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). A building housing the Post- mortem theatre and a small two room Pathology laboratory was built in 1895.During 1910-1915, new buildings were constructed from King Edward Memorial Funds, and with the Sovereign’s permission named King Edward Medical College.

For freshers!! The building and the slogan of “Number 1” associated with the name entices almost every single pre medical student of Punjab!! Many hearts have longings for this the best called medical university of Pakistan (excuse me AKU) with the architecture having majestic antiquity and the fame one gets among friends and relatives on getting an aggregate high enough to synchronise with the merit of KEMU is inexplicable!! But these are the charms from a distance the university really lags behind none in case of extra and co- curricular activities but for the first year medicos it takes sometime to understand the basic way of study! You need to understand you’ve to study by yourself to keep pace with the toppers!! You have to since beginning know that gross anatomy is not the only subject to prepare since you’re kept busy with its vivas and stages you just start thinking it’s the only imp or maybe ‘only’ subject you’ve to prepare!!! In the end you get to know about weightage of the subjects !!! Patiala block is bit too good for the freshers so they are made to study in LTS like those of physiology and anatomy department {those who know, know it all ;) }

King Edward Medical University is the oldest institution for doctors. I graduation from this university and have been attached to it since 2006. My training of Plastic surgery is from Mayo hospital, if you want training to become the best possible doctor this is the place to be for the maximum amount of patients end up coming here. The architecture is a bit old but that compensates for the kind of training you get.
